it's the little and simple things

One of the things that I like about being a server at a restaurant is meeting people. You never know who will sit at your table and what kind of discussions you will have, with strangers, over the course of a meal.

Last night one of my customers was from Vancouver. I got all excited since Heron and myself will be moving there in about ten months. I had conversations with her about the city and she gave me suggestions in terms of what we should go see when we are there. It's funny how things happen like that. Actually, for the past couple of weeks I have had a couple of customers from Vancouver.

Today I had another interesting person at my table. After telling him what I want to do he told me that he has written a couple of books and writes short stories. We got talking about short stories and me being interested in making films. He said if I need a story, I should let him know and he will let me turn it into a film. I checked him out online when I got home, and although he is not on any bestseller list, I am intrigued and would not mind reading some of his stories.

I think strangers can be a kind of inspiration too, and conversations one can have with them. I have always been interested (and hope to write about it as well, in fact) about the relationship between people, even between people who don't know each other. I am fascinated with spaces that unite people of different walks of life; spaces where they spend time together for a given time before they go their separate ways and will most likely never meet again.

I have started to read the suggested book for my class this upcoming year; it's called "Queer Theory, Gender Theory: An Instant Primer", written by Riki Wilchins (I linked it to Amazon for anyone who's interested). I hope that it will give me some insight into a topic which I don't know too much about at this point.

I will continue the story bits in my next post. The time has come now for me to retire for the evening as I have plenty to do tomorrow, on my day off.
